Mica is a natural mineral mined from the earth. We believe it derives from the Latin word ‘micare’, which means to shine. A high quality Mica is not an irritant and perfectly safe for use on the skin.

Mica has numerous uses in makeup. It helps create the shine and colour and is useful for creating natural ‘alive’ looking makeup that can be used for better contouring and coverage. Mica is what gives makeup those amazing sparkles and promotes the shimmer in most eyeshadows

What is mineral make up?

Pure mineral makeup should contain 100% minerals such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, mica and iron oxide and be free of organic dyes, preservatives and fragrance. There are some brands that abide by this definition but there are still many adding other ingredients (like preservatives). Sadly, to legally label your product ‘mineral make-up’, all you need is the presence of some mineral ingredients, so please be diligent about reading your ingredient label. What are the benefits of mineral make up?

High quality mineral cosmetics are generally considered healthier for your complexion as they often contain less ingredients that might be irritating. Conventional makeup contains chemicals, oils and other additives that can either irritate sensitive skin or cause unnecessary breakouts.

Pure mineral makeup binds to oils not water. This gives the makeup a natural water resistance and is much better for your skin than conventional cosmetics. Mineral products adhere to the natural oils in a person's skin and do not seep into the pores. High quality mineral foundations allow your skin to breathe while still offering protection. Because of the use of titanium dioxide in most mineral products, it's also an excellent SPF.

Using our products

How do I apply mineral makeup?

Application advice is available on each individual product page. For a complete overview please visit our dedicated application advice page.

Can I wear facial moisturiser under my product?

Yes. Our mineral make-up is best applied to a moisturised skin. We recommend applying a facial moisturiser or primer to ensure full hydration. Minerals will sit better on hydrated skin, making application flawless.

How often do I need to wash my brushes?

We recommend cleaning brushes at least once a month with the exception of brushes used around the eyes. These should be cleaned at least twice a month to eradicate the build-up of bacteria and reduce the risk of infection. Severe acne, cold and sinus sufferers should wash their brushes more frequently.

How do I wash my make-up brushes?

The best and most thorough method for cleaning your makeup brushes requires only water and baby shampoo.  Begin by running your brush under lukewarm water, rinsing all residual make-up. Keep brush facing downwards to avoid getting water into the area where the handle meets the head, as this can loosen bristles. Gently lather your brush with baby shampoo. After all excess make-up, dirt and oil has been removed, rinse thoroughly under lukewarm water. Wrap a small towel or cloth around the brush and pat dry. Lay flat and leave overnight to dry thoroughly.

Do I need to wear finishing powder?

Although not necessary, we do recommend finishing powder with our foundations. Light diffusing properties serve to soften your complexion, get rid of excess shine and set make-up in place longer.

Can I sleep in my makeup?

To ensure a healthier complexion and reduce the risk of irritation we advise you remove your makeup before bed. Although mineral makeup does not clog pores and is much safer than conventional makeup, we still advise you maintain a good skin care regime, which means resisting the urge to sleep in your makeup.

Can I exercise in my makeup?

Yes. Water resistant properties allow you to sweat, exercise and even swim with the added confidence of your make-up staying on longer throughout the day.
