Makeup for older women | Foundation of Youth Over 50s
Crow’s feet. Laughter lines. Wrinkles. Fine lines on your face are absolutely fabulous at adding character, but over time they can make you look older than you feel.
To retain your youthful looks, you could follow in the grow-old-disgracefully footsteps of Eddy and Patsy in an early episode of TV series Ab Fab. They tried a do-it-yourself anti-wrinkle Botox treatment with disastrous consequences!
But there’s a much simpler, cheaper, convenient and less invasive route to a youthful look than Botox injections, fillers, chemical peels or lasers.
If you’re over 50 and just want to take years off your face the easy way, natural foundation makeup is great for older women and can give you a youthful look in minutes.
How do wrinkles form?
Before we show you how to address typical wrinkle-prone problem areas such as forehead and frown lines, crow’s feet around your eyes and upper-lip ‘smoker’ lines, let’s take a step back and see what causes wrinkles.
As we age, the collagen-making in your skin slows down, the elasticity in our skin reduces. It gets thinner and drier, and before you know it, along come the wrinkles. In older more mature skin, it also takes longer for the epidermis – the outer layer of skin – to renew.
A tell-tale sign of ageing is not just lines, but also the skin starting to sag and lose its plumped-up look.
Mature skin | Holding back the years
To hold the years in check, your first note to self is to follow a healthy diet that’s packed with antioxidants to fight free radicals – foods like tomatoes, broccoli and fruit containing Vitamin C.
It’s important to maintain a good diet, especially in winter if we’re to keep fighting fit. See our post on festive foods for flawless skin, including nuts containing Vitamin E to help you protect and seal in the skin’s moisture and B12 in turkey to even out skin tone.
But whatever the season, drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated and avoid too much sun to ensure your skin stays radiant and young looking.
Makeup for older woman | Minimise wrinkles
A tried-and-tested way to disguise the signs of ageing is to use makeup that lasts all day and our 100% vegan, cruelty-free makeup is ideal for mature skin.
1. Begin by plumping up the skin with your favourite anti-wrinkle moisturiser, cream or serum, and use an eye-treatment cream around the sensitive eye area.
2. Apply a concealer like our perfecting powder concealer to tone down redness and blemishes, and even out your skin tone.
Our mineral colour corrector is also fantastic for neutralising colour imperfections, or brightening around tired, lined eyes, before applying foundation.
3. Once your problem areas are concealed, apply your oil-free mineral foundation to cover the fine lines in your face.
Some make-up experts recommend a liquid foundation rather than powder to avoid clogging. But, with our super-light mineral foundation (available in 15 shades) you can achieve full, natural-finish coverage and no blocked pores thanks to its non-comedogenic properties.
Apply the foundation using our ultra-soft and silky Optimum Face powder brush. Tip the foundation into the lid, swirl it around and tap off any excess.
Then press the powder onto the skin, working it around your forehead and chin, buffing it in circular motions around your frown lines and crow’s feet.
4. To set your foundation in place, and further minimise wrinkles and fine lines, apply our Mineral Veil Finishing Translucent Powder.
5. Now you’re ready to choose soft, smoky, matte eye-shadows that enhance the eyes of the over 50s. Neutral natural mineral eye shadows like our Jessica Matte, Denise or Rachael Matte are a good base point.
Blend in darker shades above the lid crease and a lighter colour along the lash-line to lighten and open the eyes. Apply browns, blue-grey or black natural mineral eye liner – not too much – to the upper lid. It’s particularly flattering for older women if it’s smudged rather than solid.
With the right mineral make-up and foundation, you can achieve youthful looking, line-minimised skin without having to resort to injections or fillers.
