Natural or Traditional Makeup?
Natural or Traditional Makeup?
Even though mineral makeup became popular only in the 70's, it’s been around for a few thousand years. Women have been painting their bodies with “earth colours” since ancient times. Advances in chemistry led to mass-manufactured modern makeup, starting in the 1920's. Conventional makeup companies compromised for scent and colours and started developing cosmetics that are less than natural but full of chemicals. But guess what? Colours in modern makeup come from synthetic pigments, which are less expensive than colour from natural sources.
What happened in the 70's? Cosmetic companies were required to list ingredients on their products for the first time. This is how the natural cosmetics desire started growing for every makeup lover in those times.
Mineral makeup is an attempt to get back to basics, using naturally occurring minerals from the earth, like titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, mica and iron oxide which are ground to a fine powder. Mineral makeup is free from dyes, preservatives, oils and fragrance. High quality mineral makeup should contain very few ingredients, all providing excellent product quality and offering a variety of health benefits.
Luckily, more and people are becoming aware of the negative outcomes of using chemicals on their skin so natural mineral cosmetics are exploding the beauty market. Mineral cosmetics became an extremely popular type of makeup used by celebrities, skin care specialists, dermatologists and the everyday woman. These cosmetics which offer a chemical-free option are appropriate for anyone regardless of any skin conditions the person may have. Whatever type your skin is – oily, dry or combination - mineral makeup will work well for you. Since preservatives and fragrance often cause irritation, their absence from mineral cosmetics make these products a good choice for sensitive skin.
How many times did you hear that the best foundation is one that you apply and forget? How many times does this apply for traditional makeup? Almost never!? The reason is that conventional foundations contain talc, which feels heavy on the skin. Traditional foundation also commonly settles into fine lines and wrinkles, causing creasing. So no, our mineral makeup formula doesn’t contain talc.
The ingredients all bring different elements to the final formula. Titanium dioxide provides sunscreen properties, while zinc oxide acts as an anti-inflammatory. Iron oxide is responsible for providing colour and mica feels silky to the touch and reduces the appearance of pores and wrinkles. The lack of the filler ingredients, can lead to less pore clogging which means fewer breakouts. Yay for that.
We’re giving you a tip: to ensure you're buying quality mineral makeup, read the label. If it says "mineral-enriched" or if the formulation is liquid or mousse, these products may contain paraben preservatives or dimethicone added for a smooth texture.
Guess what? We’re all minerals and only minerals. No liquids, no mineral enriched. We only commercialise exactly what we use and we stand for the principles of our mineral makeup which is also cruelty-free and vegan. Friendly for us, for you, for the environment. Easier, faster, healthier.
